Oil level??!!!!

This must be somewhere here- I did search a while.

I've been running my Brad Penn oil right around the lower dipstick mark in my '69 S to prevent oil from entering the breather (advice I got here).

I've also had an oil pressure gauge that occasionally fluctuates during cornering. I thought I fixed it by replacing the crimp connection.

Yesterday after taking a spirited drive I noticed the oil pressure fluctuating just a split second. I nursed the car home and when flat and level in my garage with a totally warmed up engine at 80-100C I carefully checked the oil with the stick.

NOTHING! I added a half quart of Brad Penn and the stick showed nothing still.

3/4 quart and the oil was at the bottom line. All this time oil pressure was "normal".

Question:

HOW much reserve oil do I have when I'm 3/4 qt BELOW bottom line on the stick?

Are the 10.5 or so quarts available to the oil pump? Or is this massive quantity of oil hiding in coolers, lines, filters and the tank?

Of course the engine runs better than EVER today!

I won't worry about this (plenty of oil in the Gulf)...

WOULD YOU??!!!!

Gene,

You have a total of 10 to 12 quarts of oil in your car. You should be ok.

In the future, you add a quart of oil when you are at the min mark. This will put you about halfway between the min and max level marks.
