Anybody out there had their Fuchs re-anodised? I know a lot of you have polished and that re-anodising is possible but the industrial suppliers I have tried don't seem too keen and I was wondering what the problem was. Not looking for any recommendations for suppliers as I am in the UK but just wanted to find out if anyone had done it successfully and how they went about it.

Hi Roy,
I have had about 20 Fuchs reanodised so far. They come out exactly like factory new, provided they are polished before. You only polish the lip, as the (first stripped) center gets repainted after. With the guys I'm using I specify no cleaning bath prior to anodising. This cleaning creates a more dull finish. But without it, there is no telling from a factory new rim (I compared with a new rim in the box I had). I still h^think that a factory finish is the best in terms of aesthetics/ease of maintenance. Roy if you search for a post "how to restore correctly my Fuchs" by Olivier 3.0 there is a reply

If the anodising is still OK the Fuch alloys respond well to painting, if the centres just need freshening up that is. I much prefer the standard anodised finish to polishing. Good luck, Jon |

Thanks for the replies
Jon - it is the anodising which needs redoing, there is some pitting obviously caused by brake dust and some marks, I have done the vaseline treatment many times and have been pleased with the results but, having seen a newly restored set at a Porsche Club show this weekend, I now want to go the whole hog and get them (or another set) done. I will continue the search through yellow pages and let you know if I find anywhere and the costs etc. Roy |
