Electrical questions - 1987 930 engine into a 1978 930 chassis

I have a friend fitting an 87 930 engine into a 78 930 chassis. Both are 3.3 cars, but the CIS injection changed later on to include a DME module to control emissions, etc.

Can he fit the 87 930 engine with the old engine harness and omit the new stuff?

Failing that, what changes or splices does he need to do to get the complete 87 3.3 working?
