Or your floor pans... I've had people put huge dents in the floors. Better than crushed oil lines, but still not fun.

Their insurance should cover the wheels. I'd treat myself to some brand new wheels from the dealer if I were you.

In his defense they do have really cheap tires and mount them for less than any other outfit. I was actually considering taking my car there last week---thank GOD for the forums, my paranoia is renewed! Porterfield Tire ok? I don't have a p-car shop nearby. I would like to just take my wheels, but I also need an alignment.

Aren't Fuchs pretty much the same as any other alloy wheel? On *any* alloy wheel (unlike steel), you have to use one of the "touchless" machines. If you run any part of the steel tire machine hard up against the outer lip of an alloy, you are going to tear the heck out of it, whether it's a fuchs, BMW, MB or any other aluminum wheel.

So, a little surprising.

I would be concerned about the oil lines, though! That is something unique to a 911, and they are very vulnerable when put on a commercial lift by someone who doesn't know about the car. (Most doen't even look at the lines, and some apparently think they are steel tubes that are just PERFECT for placing the jack pads on).

Sams Club!?! Even if Costco was capable I wouldn't take anything but the steel rims from my 92 toyota pickup. I always ask shops (and even look at the equipment) to make sure they can handle forged or 3pc aluminum/magnesium rims that are cosmetic. If by some reason you also take your car for an oil change at Jiffy Lube, heres a heads up... don't do that anymore either.

It was indeed Sams Club targamaniac..

All I said to the nice claim agents was that they needed to replace and not 'fix' them and i thought they were worth $500 each and so they sent me a check for $1000 to buy 2 new wheels. that easy..

I'll leave out the drama where I went back and confronted the shop guys for not fessing-up to what they knew they had done.. I was not a happy camper ;)

If the finish on the two new replacements match the existing wheels, you're good to go. If not, you have a dilemma.

Costco damaged an alloy wheel on my wife's Bimmer some years ago (before upgrading to newer equipment). They apologized and promptly reimbursed me for the cost of a replacement wheel. But that was a Bimmer alloy, not a Fuchs.

Most pro. tire stores realize the potential liability of R&Ring tires on Fuchs. If they take on the job, they should have the proper machine and their best operator on it, but it's best to confirm that replacement or repaired wheels must match the existing ones. Still, stuff happens.

hopefully SAMS training requirements become more extensive as a result of this process - the net result could be many fewer wheel damage events on Fuchs or other. It comes down to training and supervision, if changing tires without wheel damage is a priority it should improve over time. As far as I know the modern machines out there are capable of changing the tires without wheel damage.

.....and.... did you check the oil lines ???

X100!! Thats like going to Jiffy Lube for an oil change on your dry sump flat 6. er I mean 911 engine. Just because you can buy these cars somewhat cheap now doesn't mean they can get serviced like a friggin Pontiac.

AS IF he's going to buy two new Fuchs.

See what happens when you go to a discount place. They are equipped to mount tires on daily drivers, not quality Porsche rims.

Make them replace your wheels... There is a place in Atlanta, Wheel wizard, look on the internet for them... They might be able to fix them.
