Wipers dont park where they should
My 84 carrera wipers wont park on drivers side when switched off. Whats causing this? Wiper motor or switch?
|
if the intermittent on your wipers don't work either its probably the switch atleast it was on mine. get a used or now and it should be fine.
|
Most likely the wiper switch. It is possible to take the switch apart, bend long metal contacts back into the correct position and it will work a year or two longer before needing the repair again.
A search will result in photos and more detailed instructions on the procedure. |
Where are they parking? If on the passenger side, perhaps someone who owned the car before decided that they liked I better with the wipers parking over there.
Personally, when I finally get around to it, I plan on doing just that. With then parked on the drivers side, even though I'm a tall guy, they are in my field of vision, and having a totally uninstructed view of the road would be really nice. Michael |
Sounds like a contact problem. Adjust the switch contacts prior to buying another one (free vs. $200). Also, there are contacts just like the wiper switches over on the headlights, clean them up while in there.

Are you talking about the small round intermittent switch above the steering wheel thats bad? Or the wiper switch on the steering column?
|
wiper switch on the steering column. I found a new OEM switch for $135, easy to replace.

Another thing to check is that the connections to the wiper motor have not come loose. I had this with mine a while back and it turned out the connector that provided the power to park the wipers after the column switch has been turned to off was disconected. Its the same connector for speed setting one, so in my case lost speed 1, intermittent control and parking ability - they just used to stop where they were when the column switch was turned off.
Easy fix - just pushed it back into the plastic retainer plug. cost $0 Tim |

I'm average; wipers are not in my view of the road. They're in my view of the trunklid. The wipe pattern is better when they park on the driver's side. Assume that's why Porsche did it. |
Here's how I fixed mine
