Valve & ignition timing? (1971 911 2.2T)

I really have an issue getting the motor to run smoothly.

Could anyone kindly forward me the right settings in terms of certain degrees at certain RPM's etc?

Haynes manual, 35 Degress BTDC at 6000 rpm. If I were you, been there and done that, first, set the engine at TDC, engine firing on #1 and rotor pointed to mark on distributor. If that is good and wires correct in the distributor, it should start and run smoothly. If it is missing, at that point, make sure the distributor is in correctly, one tooth off will do what you are experiencing. Good luck. Steve

You need to give us a little history on the motor and what you have already done to it.

OKI - it's a 912 & the engine was replaced in the 90's with a 911 2.2 from 1971.
No further info at all on engine. US originally - now in Copenhagen Denmark.

Its has Zenith carbs - & I have very limited skills myself, so using a mechanic. :-)

First mechanic got to to run OK - but the idle running is very high (3-4K) once the engine is really warm. Now this has been corrected earlier today, & tomorrow we should see how it runs when cold.

Mechanic (originally educated at WV) just asked me if I could supply info on valve / ignition / degree positions at certain RPM's (like the one Steve has kindly send me), & that's about how far I know so far !!!

Martin,
Still have the marelli?
I went through the same process with a 71T and I'm still on the learning curve but one thing that stood out was the my marelli advance was toast mostly due to the spring plate being exposed to the elements in the past. Got lucky and borrowed a bosche for diagnosis and at the least I could relegate many of my idle problems to the marelli. Found a spare marelli that is working well but likely prolonging the inevitable necessary replacement.
I could get her to start and run but after the first good rise in rpm she would like to stick high. Timing light helped expose the problem as well.
