Ventilation System Removal w/o Loosing Footwell Heat?
All,
It’s a lazy foggy Sunday here in Santa Barbara. So I thought I’d pay homage to the Goddess of Unneeded Accessories and remove my fresh air system that is cluttering up my trunk. I have a ‘82 SC Targa and have removed the A/C and backdated the heater, courtesy of Pelican Parts. From all my research here it looks like I can remove everything associated with the fresh air and A/C ventilation system. My question is how far can I go without loosing heat to the footwells? Thanks in advance for your advise and consultation.

What I'm posting is from memory--without a visual of the system--so I may leave some things out.
Basically, the fresh air blower has no effect on the hot air system. If you remove the large blower under the center of the cowl, you will need keep the left and right flapper valves that sit above the foot wells and cap off the opening where the ducting from the blower entered. You'll probably have to figure a way to maintain the cable connections to the flappers so the heat will can be regulated (though this may not be necessary--again, I don't have a picture.) If you have the booster fans on the flapper valves, that is something of which I am unfamiliar but they can be replaced by older, manual valves from earlier cars. If you remove the blower assembly, you must replace it with something to catch the water that will enter through the hole in the cowl. You might install a collector from a pre-69 car that is very small and only has a tube connected to drain out the sump. I see them for sale from time to time.
