Alum. Flywheel

The shop is installing a 5.5lb. alum. flywheel on my twin turbo
car. Just wondering what to expect, should be interesting.

no flywheel effect= fall on your face on take-off, unless you keep the Rs up and slip the clutch more.

Twin turbo 750 HP and you need more power on takeoff?
There's these things, I think they're called JATO units....

I'm going to ask more questions than answer:
1st gear ratio? Weight? Cam? Compression?

Obviously you have enough HP, but if a stock 930 tranny and a grabby race clutch at a stock 2800 or so lbs.......Your going to slip clutch on take off.

If your running a G50 or deeper gears in diff, if your running an organic clutch, if your lightened with an SC cam or better and 8.0+ compression, than your likely going to love it. It does make things easier to shift faster.

I'm putting an Al flywheel and PP in mine with the turbo engine....I'm at 2300+,915, Evo cam, 8:1, EFI, Organic clutch.

Yeah, you have 750 HP -- at 6500 RPM or so. The important question is how much HP do you have at 1000 - 1500 RPM which is the RPM that you'll be starting at most often on the street (assuming this is for street use)?. The benefit of a flywheel is that in situations like that, it stores up energy so that the engine doesn't stall when the clutch is dropped. One of the trade-off's of an engine with light rotational mass is that the clutch wear is higher. Now if you have a race car where the engine gets stripped every one to two seasons (maybe 100 hours of use), that may not be a big deal. But for street use, it can be a real drag replacing the clutch every year or more.

Lets see a 5.5 pound aluminum flywheel probably has about 8mm cross section at the flange and 750 hp probably needs 3200 lbs of clamping pressure.
It is a good thing that the engine is behind you.

This car is not a everyday driver, but it is a street car.
And everything you guys said is true.
With the stock flywheel it would light the tires up out of
hole. How much the flywheel helped with that I don't
know.
I'm running a Kennedy Alum. clutch with a six paddle solid
metalic disc. This clutch bites hard and may be the tricky
part.
The car has a Motec so I can program another map if needed.
I'm hoping to bring the rpm's up quicker.
I am still running the 930 4 speed with a lower gear swap.
Here's a few Pic's
