A friend of John Gregory has a gorgeous 1970 911 T for sale, although it's no ordinary 911 T.
Three years ago, the standard engine was fully rebuilt, with carbs, by John to 2.4 'S' specs. It has travelled only 10,000kms since the rebuild! The engine is mated to a close ratio 915 5-spd, and it was rebuilt 400kms ago! Other features include: LSD; alloy 'S' calipers all round (front calipers recently overhauled; adjustable bias valve); Corbeau race seats (original seats will be bundled with the car); re-valved competition Koni shockers; gusseted and jigged struts; through-body front sway bar -- front and rear bars are adjustable. The car is finished in white and has polished 6" Fuchs. I've had a good look at the car, and all I can say is that is has been amazingly preserved. It has the classic, spoiler-less, narrow bumper looks so many people lust after, but under the skin is a true beast -- it will lap Calder Park in 1m 09s! To put that into perspective, GT3s lap Calder in 1m 03s! The asking price is $37,000; I'm not getting a cut or anything, in case you're wondering! I can obtain copies of all receipts, which, incidentally, total $30,000! If any of you are interested, send me an e-mail and I'll point you in the right direction. If you live outside Victoria, I'll have photos of the car by early next week. Hey, while we've got your attention!
I know that Alex Counsell recently relocated to Melbourne, but if there's anyone else out there from Melbourne, Australia we should try to organize an event similar to these Atlanta guys' Cars 'n' Coffee! Besides, for this long without a 911, Alex probably needs a fix! I know there are a few of you out there! (...Paul!) and if you're game, so am I. We can meet up somewhere, go for a ride and finish up for beers or coffee or lunch or whatever. I'll bring the camera and post it here on Pelican. I'm thinking something in the New Year (early January 2002). This is open to anyone who will be in the area at the time, but if you're keen, email me at work, adam@makinandluby.com.au and we'll sort out a date! AC

Thanks Matt,
I have a mate looking for a weekend track car - sound like this fits the bill very nicley. I'll run it by him. I am in Melbourne every few weeks - if it coincides with an 'event' i'd love to join in.

It sounds like a good car Matt.
Shame i am not in a position to buy just yet. So anyway, there has just got to be more than 3 of us in Vic or Melbourne!! And Adelaide or Sydney are not *that* far away. So im sure some of you could drive over. The Great Ocean Road is a great drive I am told. I havent been down there yet. So there is an excuse for you non victorians to make it over. ![]() Also Matt, you have to take me for a ride in your car now you've had the engine rebuilt and its run in. ![]() I've got a new digital camera that needs a good work out as well. I dont think my Hyundai Coupe (oh the shame) will keep up with a 911. But hey, its got Porsche tuned suspension, so its almost acceptable. ![]() And at least the air-con works ![]() Alex.

Adam great idea - name the time and place and you're on. It’d be great to put faces to the names.
The car for sale sounds great. I bought my car exactly the same way - one of John's clients was selling and John knew I was in the market. He even did a full check on it for me including leak down and compression test at no cost. This will be a great buy for someone. Australian delivery?

Hey David - I very recently saw what I would humbly call the ultimate track Road combination vehical at Weltmeister in Richmond. An engineer with way too much time and money owned and raced this car for many years. Won its class in the T.Targa and numerous track events. I think it was built as a full track car (including role cage) and then they reinstalled the interior and had it road registered. Motec'd 2.7l engine plus all the usual suspension and brake goodies. Well worth taking a look at - I think they had $68K on it.
Cheers

Paul,
My car is going to be spending a bit of time tomorrow on the dyno, so I'll ask John if the 911 T is an Australian-delivered example. I'll be very surprised if it isn't. Matt - Looking forward to seeing your dyno results and remember if you ever want to sell that engine you know who to speak to first...
John F e-mailed you the contact details for the Weber parts supplier, let me know if you received it. Adam, Sunday's always good. As far as destination goes well I've yet to give my revised suspension set up a good work out so anywhere with twisties is good. Regards

Guys,
We weren't able to put the car on the dyno today. ![]() However, the rebuilt distributor is in, and the engine is so much sweeter! And I thought the engine was impressive with the temporary distributor! Holy cow! John gave me some photos today of the 911 T that he has for sale. These are old photos, and do not show the polished Fuchs that are currently on the car. 37000 OZ$ works out to about 19000 US$. Is that about the going rate for a really nice T down there?

Tom,
You'd be amazed at the prices we're expected to endure here in Melbourne. A prominent dealer in Melbourne, who specializes in Porsches, has a perfect 1974 Carrera 2.7 (same as Matt Holcomb's) which sold for AUD$60k! For example, normal 933 Coupes (not 'S' models) sell for over $100k and 993 Turbos start at around $160k. The P-car market here is strong. 3.2 Carreras usually cost around $55-60k and even SCs (Sorry SCWDP ![]()

That is a fair bit above the going rate for a very nice one in New Zealand, so is probably a wee bit over for Australia - depends whether your think that you can get money back for rebuilt engine (especially S specs) and box, etc etc etc.
It would definitely be worth it to the right buyer... (edit) - looked at what Adam wrote and the sitiation for the poor Aussies is worse than my (internet-based) research indicated. I look at the classified over at www.porscheclub.org.au (NSW Porsche Club) and prices there don't seem so bad. In NZ, best price point is 930s (there are a surprising number here). Average price for them seems to be NZD60k (about US$25k, AUD50k). Carreras about NZD40-50k, all other early/mid/SC NZD20-35k, depending entirely on condition (rusty or broken is less). Late SCs get to about NZ$40k, as does anything obviously outstanding (low miles, condition, etc). If I ever emigrated to Australia for work, I would definitely be taking one with me :-). Adam's right, the values of earlier P-cars here are going through the roof. One of the specialist dealers based in Richmond (not on Church Street but associated with a well known work shop) sold a nice 2.4 'E', needing a new interior but with rebuilt engine and excellent body for about $56K. They also had a black Targa 'E' with a 2.7 rebuild available for mid $50's - and they don't advertise!
I'm thinking if I wait long enough values might even meet what I have in my car ![]()

Hi
I know of someone in Melbourne who paid $80,000 for 2.4 S in concourse condition. He has had offers to buy it for even a higher price again. Prices appear to be going up for quality early P cars. Enjoy your Chrissie Dean 1971 911S Targa Brisbane ![]() |
