Not sure I understand your question -"Play in all directions"
These may be obvious, but for example: - The lower portion of the shift lever has separated from the upper portion (not shown). - Springs for 5th/Rev are removed from housing (without them, the lever will have add'l play) - You have a late shift housing with a threaded shift box pivot pin (and lock nut). threading the pin inward/outward adjusts the side-to-side play. ![]() Am I hot or cold? make sure your coupling to the trans is play free too.

pelican sells coupler bushings with round holes, rather than with oval holes like factory. you'll like them.

![]() Anyway, you know what I mean... The play is left to right. However I can not determine what pin you are refering to and how to adjust it. Would you please expand? -Dan

do you know the condition of your rear coupler? I had my trans rebuilt and we put in a Wevo internal shift gate. We could hardly get into 3rd gear until I redid the rear coupler. Very easy to do and very inexpensive.
Are you sure it is OK?

I had a lot of play in my shifter. It turned out my set screw was loose on the cup. You should really check it. May save you a lot of hassel.

The "shift fork" is the rectangular, one or two-piece metal "box" that contains the shift lever and its pivot pin. On each end of the fork is a pivot pin that allows the lever to swing left-right. On early shift housings ('73-'76), these are split pins driven in from the outside of the housing. On later shift housings ('77-'86), the front pivot pin is threaded with a lock nut. From your photos, it appears you might have a later shift housing. Is that correct? If so, to remove excess left-right play, loosen the lock nut, then use a 10mm hex wrench to thread the pivot pin inward (or outward as necessary). Warning: The lock nut is usually very tight. It's easier to temporarily reinstall the shift housing on the tunnel to hold it in place, then use a 1/2" dr. flex handle and 22mm socket to loosen it (push down on handle on pass. side). ![]() Seine Systems > Blue Printing the 915 Shift Housing OTOH, if the fork uses split pins on both ends, the only way to adjust the play is to remove one or both split pins and insert a shim(s) (washer) until the desired clearance (feel) is achieved, then reinstall the split pin(s). BTW, it's preferable to space both ends equally to keep the fork centered in the shift housing. Hope this helps, Sherwood |
