Help, myc ar will not start...
I started my car, moved it into position to do some work, and now it will not start. I removed the distributor to replace the left side cam oil line, and made sure the engine was at TDC, and marked the location of the distributor body and rotor. I replaced it just like I have before and now it will not start. I checked all my conections, and double checked to make sure the rotor was pointing in the right direction. I'm at a loss.
Thanks for any advice. ------------------ Matt Chamblin 78 911 SC |
Is the green pickup wire firmly connected to it's socket in the distributor body?

Matt,
Likely you did not put it back in the same position. The spiral cut on the drive gear twists the rotor as you push it in so you must start it with the rotor away from the # 1 position. First, rotate the engine by hand using either the pulley holder tool or a 22 mm on the nut holding the fan pulley and check where it fires. Should be near tdc for # 1. If not, pull the distributor rotor and insert it in the next gear position and try again. Be sure that you are on tdc for #1 or all your efforts will be in vain. Ned Monaghan |
Thank you both for your replies. It turned out being my pick-up wire wasn't connected right. ( Thanks for the hint doug)
