hot engine will not fire

my 1987 3.2 starts first time from cold even after 12 months storage.
Runs well and performance is fine.
Once the oil has warmed up properly if you turn it off and then try and restart it will crank until it flattens the battery but will not fire.
Its as if something is sticking, could it be the aux air/ cold start valve?

Cold start valve is not part of a warm start so that is out of the equation--unless there is an electrical problem which does cause it to activate resulting in flooding but that's not likely. Have you checked for spark during warm starts? Do you have a DME relay on your car? (if this sounds dumb, I'm sorry but I'm not familiar with later cars.) Even if you fuel accumulator is bad or check valve is bad, you should be able to get a start without draining the battery. I'd guess a fuel pump/electrical problem, followed by ignition.

When was the check valve last changed? Thats a quick and cheap maintenance item that is often forgotten about.

how long does it have to sit after it is warm before it will not start? IE, can you get it hot, turn it off then start it right back up or does it have to sit for say 20-30 minutes before it will not start. for me, its about enough time to eat lunch.
