my 74 rs project from FRANCE

hi everybody, i'm from france and i started to build my teenager dream. A rs iroc inspired 911. i bought the base in during the summer 2017 to a really bad guy in florida and imported to france. when i received the car in france it was a disaster. instead of having a car with a rebuild 3.0 swap engine, flatnose, speedline wheels and 993 seats, i had a junk car with a blocked engine uncomplete, 16"wheels, and a really bad interior... after being depressive for few weeks, i didn't have the choice, all my money was into it so i decided to rebuild the whole car. at the beginning it was to enjoy with my old dad, so it was hard to accept.
here in november, the first day in my backyard:

after the tears, the action.
i need a rs iroc body kit , deep 17 wheels, rs carpet, roll cage, good suspension , upgraded brakes and a strong 3.0 with 2 weber 40 ida. all the work will be done by myself, i will try to work on good details to make the difference.

first i start with the front fenders. i will shaved the mirrors on the doors so i decided to modify the fiberglass driver side fender with a molded channeled mirror. i used a ford cortina 1970 mirror.

fender mock up. it will need a lot of adjustment if i want a good fitment.

same for the rear bumper. i cut the upper part of the iroc bumper to correctly fit the rear fenders.

all the mods were reinforced from the inside of the parts. i hope you understand my english.

i decided to make a custom stainless steel exhaust with magnaflow muffler to have the two exhaust pipes centered on the bumper. i finally shaved the bumper from all his holes and the left exhaust hole. i did a light custom fiberglass panel between the lights. bolts are glued directly in the fiberglass to a solid fitment.

i started to work on the wheels. i loved the design of my 3 piece kinesis wheels 16" so i decided to convert the 16" to 17" with custom lips and barrels built by TRAMONT here in France.
front wheels are 8x17 because of the manual steering (2.5"lips and 5.5" barrels)
rear wheels are 11X17 ( 5.5 lips and 5.5 barrels)
i will have the wheels black powder coated in two weeks
i was thinking about the tires size, 205/50 front and 275/40 in the back.
here few pics of the mock up before paint.

I too commend you on your positive attitude! Unfortunately, the 911 marketplace has attracted a lot of marginal sellers here in the states.

And yes, MEXICO BLUE is tres magnifique!

Sorry you were done in the purchase but I think your inspiration is fantastic!
Please keep posting - it's always great motivation to see others restoring and modifying their cars too

Welcome! Going to be a fun project to watch. I don't know much about car culture in France. I would like to know more. BTW for any Europeans looking to buy a US car. Never buy a car from Florida. :-D Sorry for your luck.

car culture in france is strong, but laws against modified cars are everywhere and it will be harder after the month of may 2018 with the new control/test every 2 years.

it is why i started my porject with a car who is older than 30 years because the control is a bit easier to pass. lot of porsches everywhere in france but not a lot of really nice aircooled because the ones with euro specs and french origine are here really expensive.

Welcome...this place can help you every step of the way. Mexico blue is a great original color, and those Kinesis wheels look great!

Florida cars and sellers are notoriously shady. Looks like very serious rust on the passenger rear quarter panel by the ducktail lip! Did the seller hide this in the photos he sent? Is there a lot of rust like this elsewhere? What year is it? If it's a 1976 model or earlier then it is not fully galvanized, and being in Florida could have really bad rust just from moisture and rain. Or worse, a flooded car is very common in Florida.

You should tell us who this shady seller was so nobody else gets ripped off.

yes there is a bad rust on the passenger side of the duck tail, that is the only place . i checked the car inside / outside with the help of a magnet and it is a very solid car. but i supposed this part was destroy by a fire damage on the original 2.7 engine. the rest of the story is priceless....the seller put some tape ont the rust and spray directly on it, so it was invisible on pictures. the seller waited for the stupid european buyer, and it was me! after the deal was done, he took off the speedline wheels, the momo steering wheels , the front seat and put in the car all his garbage stuff. the swapped 3.0 was supposed to runs super strong and was finally blocked! ahaha.

it is a 1974 model, so i lifted the car to watch the undies , i took of the carpet to be sure , floors are good. it was only after that i decided to restore the car, before that i have planed to sell it only for parts... few good surprises like paint code 336, and new brakes and suspension.

it was supposed to be a quicka father/son project (my father is 70years old) finally i will do it for me. i paid back half of the price to my father to not have him involved into this ****. now i'm searching a 912e for my father in the us so he will enjoy an aircooled prosche even if it is not an 911 with his small budget.

the seller is called denis , he lives in tampa in florida and sells ****ty cars on craigslist and ebay. after that , he cancelled his ebay account.

thanks for the good words! i hope i'm not to hard to read with my elementary school english!
