Due to the popularity of How old are we on this site?
Here is one that could be interesting: Saw a Porsche 911 in 1963 and said one day... and finally got one in 2009: just a bit over 45 years of dreaming.

30 yrs.
I took a 130 MPH ride in a 911 Turbo when I was 17 yrs. old. At age 47 I purchased a 1983 Red Targa. IT still gives me chills when I get on it!!

I was in france when I was 17 on a family trip. we were on the highway going pretty fast I thought. I kept looking back to see the traffic. looked back and saw yellow headlights closing fast. a white 911 flew past with that signature sound! I needed one. finally got mine 20 years later.

Hi
|
I was 16, had just received my driver's license. the neighbor, 2 houses down came over and said "hey i heard you just got your license... come on, i'll teach you how to drive a stick." I learned how to drive a manual transmission in a 1970 912. I was hooked ever since. It took me a while to buy my dream car (Guards red, Targa with black interior), everything else came first, marriage, house, kids, kids car and now that all thats done, it was my turn.

It started in 1979 when a buddy in chemistry class pulled out a car mag with a red 911SC on the cover. My '87 came to live with me in 2007.

I had to wait about 10 years....mainly because I was only 7 years old when I saw my first Porsche. It was 1957, and I was 8 years old and I saw a 356 Speedster. I wasn't sure what it was, but thought How Cool Could a Car Be If It's Named 'SPEEDSTER????
I saved every penny, mowing lawns, washing cars, you name it, I did it and saved my money to buy one. By 1967, 356s seemed like old cars, so I wanted a 911 instead. Bought a year old 66 911 in 1967.

looked for about 2 years before I found my 930, there isn't many in Canada and I have alot of trouble getting into the states, finally found one about 25 miles from home, I was over seas when I saw the car on Fleabay, called him and he picked the money up 2 days later, did it all wrong, no PPI, I did use his though, had a buddy who looked at it for me all he said was it beautiful and real fast , the PO took him for a test ride and my buddy asked the PO "who put those flares on" we still laugh about it

back in the mid-fifties when i was five or six my father took me to one of his friends houses and i saw my first porsche up close. for some reason i could never talk my dad into getting one. through my teens i got my rear engine fix out of a couple of corvairs and by my late twenties went mid-engined with the first of two 914s. at about fortynine i got my first 911, an sc targa and kicked myself for not doing it much earlier. since then i bought and sold a coupe and bought a beck 550 replica.
problem is, i still want more. they're worse than potato chips. |

My older sister showed up one day in 1979 when I was 13 with a boyfriend who had a 911 Turbo. Black on black. We lived in a little ski town in Colorado and I was blown away.
I decided then that I would own a Porsche someday. The story of how I found mine in 1997: The Story of Our Porsche For what it's worth, a little earlier (when I was about 10) my dad's buddy had a Toyota FJ40 that I rode in all the time. Likewise I finally found one in 2002 and have been refurbishing it since: Uglina's (78 FJ40) Fix-up Thread ![]() My list for the future includes the following in no particular order: 914-6, MG TC, Fiat X/19 (I'm not joking), ~1978 1st gen Honda Civic (my first car was a 2nd gen 1983 Civic), a Range Rover Discovery 110, and Mercedes SL Gullwing. I created this list before I was 16 years old. Whichever of these I choose will be a ground-up, frame-off restoration.

Way back in the mid 70's, I looked for something sporty... Back then the X/19 was $5,500 but the Honda 750K CB4 was half the price on the road...
So I bought the bike and before the summer was over I was negotiating the dates of my license suspension with a judge ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Here is a photo of the one that took the first place away from me last week... Way too modified but jealousy will take me nowhere. ![]()

When I was about six years old I had a hot wheels 911 and I really liked the shape of the car. Many years later I bought a Motor Trend magazine in 86+/- and fell in love with the three customized 911 Turbos featured. Found my 74s about five years ago in a barn at S.C.

When I was 12 years old, a game called "Need For Speed Porsche Unleashed" came out. I will never forget owning a computer racing wheel and noticing the incredible difference between each of the Porsche models. You start in the 1950s with the 356 and it goes all the way to the GT1 (996 Era). I highly suggest this came for any of you with kids!
As a 12 year old, you tend to think the newer the better. I will never forget racing that 1973 Carerra RS and thinking it was the most awesome car in the game. Nearly 10 years later at 22, I bought my 1978 SC Targa in Talbot Yellow. I love the car. ![]() ![]() |

In case you didn't know, a 1 year old Porsche in 67 was 6 grand. Seemed like a lot of $ for a 17 year old. especially when you include insurance and SPEEDING tickets (two in one day) which made for higher insurance.......But I went to work at 16 and was makin' pretty good bread.
