Late model VDO clock repair - ideas?

So I bought a clock that works for 5 minutes then slows down and stops. I've pulled it apart according to other threads on this site. Looks like the little drive motor gets jumpy then slows down reverses a bit then runs at a lower rpm all the while going forward then backward. I don't see any bad looking solders. Any ideas? ANy idea how to separate the electronics from the gears?

Might be time to consider a boost gauge!

No turbo in back,,, that can be changed too!

It's all a chain reaction.

The voltage across one of the caps is 12v while the other is 1.5v. Other threads suggest they should be the same?

Replacing the caps solved my clock not running in my targa (the thing's amazingly accurate, too). New caps are cheap, so it might be well worth a try. You shouldn't have to disassemble the clock further to change out the caps (presuming you've got a modicum of electronic soldering skills). Note that there's polarity when replacing the capacitors as well.

Still have to sort my cabriolet's non-running clock.

If you have a small soldering iron, try reflowing all of the solder joints. They may have become high resistance from heating & cooling over the years. This corrects many intermittent problems.

OK...totally screwed that up. I was removing the solder on the capacitor, dropped the unit and the delicate motor widing broke off $%&$*$!!

So now I either need new internals or another clock. I'm going to Walmart to buy a cheap quartz movement to put in the VDO housing if it will fit.
