SC are Super!
I bought my 83 SC from a fellow pelican last year for 22,900. It had 37K on it which I could verify, two owners, pretty good service records. Last week it turned 46K with only normal maintenance since purchase. Monday night it had its third PCA track day. The comments I have had from the instructors are that it is a very well balanced smooth car. I concur.
The car has actually improved since I bought it. Increased use has made it smoother and quicker. It has been 100% reliable and has done three multi-day distance trips. The only maintenance I have needed other than fluids, was new plug wires this spring, and a washer pump. If I have a regret its that I have had to do nothing to the car. (I like to tinker). When I read about the Cashmere cliff ( in Excellence) I am glad I bought the best car I could find. I spent 18 months looking for the right car and that was the best investment. I paid the gentleman that owned the car what he asked for it, and we both ended that day happy. There are lots of views on value and some need a deal. I think a deal is one that is fair and with integrity on both sides. Regardless of whether I paid 10% over market or not I got an excellent car that has rewarded me with lots of enjoyment and has tens, if not hundreds of thousands of miles ahead of it. The SC / Carrera argument is a theoretical one more than real. The SC isn't a powerhouse but its fast enough for me, and they can always be gold plated. The comment on rubber parts is valid and that is where I will be putting my upgrade money... eventually. I don't know how long I willl own this car, but I treat it like it willl be a lifetime. If this is the right car for you it doesn't really matter what you pay for it. You willl get your value from it. |
