911R Quarter Windows
I have been following the threads about 911R louvered rear quarter windows for some time and have arrived at the conclusion that I need to make new tooling to vacuum form some alternatives to those already available.
I think there are two versions at present and I believe that neither are correct in all detail. I am interested in replicating the correct pattern 911R Bond-In style window and am looking for some help in confirming that I have the right specification. I think that the original window had a 90 degree return all around the edge so it could be glued into the bodyshell. I think Spektr make a window with this edge profile. There is a UK based supplier that makes a similar priced window but I don't believe that the bond-in version has the return on the edges so it would sit too deep into the aperture. The problem I have with the Spektr window is that the louvres are set too low into the moulding. I would post photographs but I don't want to cut and past from their website. I am sure that this is done so that the same mould tool can be used to make the window that fits into a window frame - hence the louvers being out of place by 25-30mm. I do realise I am being 'picky' but good Twin Plug 'R'replicas are expensive and I would like to be a authentic as possible. If I go ahead we would make about 10 sets for about $300 a pair as I have all the tooling and manufacturing quotes in place. It would mean that we could only offer the bond-in style. I would welcome opinions. Last edited by ix0ifan; 06-16-2010 at 11:21 PM.. |

911R windows
I also think that the 911R hada bonded in rear screen that had a 90 degree return around the edge and I am very keen to make these as well.

sounds great - i'll take a pair of glue-ins if they happen. i think you are right about the louver placement. performance plastics i think sells the drip tray separately but at a high price considering the manufacturing cost.

The plan is to make the bond-in type with the correct return and the louvre in the correct position.
They will be complete with the drip tray and have open louvres all in the price. I hope to order tooling next week and have been quoted 3-4 weeks for sample. Once this is available I will post pictures. |

I have toyed with this idea for some time now for the lightweight. I have hesitated due to all the negative comments regarding supply. My choice would be lexan inserts for the pop out window frames since I like the brightwork look. Since this car gets driven on cross country trips and sometimes rain, I wonder if the vent and drip tray setup lets rain inside when the car sits.
I will be following your progress closely.
