Test drove a 993 C4. . . Does AWD slow down the car

Second day of test driving the 993. This time it was a late 95 AWD model. Car looked great, and sounded great. However, it seemed slow. Not nearly as quick as Are the AWD models slower or did I just pick a bad car to form an opinion on the AWD system?

one more diff, axles and tires to drive= power robber. my old 86 VW syncro vanagon was a slug too, until i removed the front driveshaft.

Funny, my thought exactly. .. except mine is an 87 syncro.

Although, the AWD has much better acceleration in the rain and snow than the 2WD. :)

Yes. Just check roadtest results in any magazine.

AWD of course adds weight and complexity, and gives the vehicle a totally different dynamic 'feel'.

It certainly has its advantages though. I acquired an Audi S4 Quattro last night, and coincidentally it started pouring rain tonight.

Being able to lay down 258lb-ft of torque in 1st gear in the rain, with no fuss whatsoever, is an unusual capability.
