Guys,
I just bought a car for the engine. Wondering what the general take is between parting a car out, or selling it as a roller (no engine or trans). -Obviously there's quite a bit more work involved in parting out; Is there normally a significantly higher return ($$) as compared to selling a roller? Appreciate any feedback, Thanks, Gordo

we're talking an '83 SC here?
Generally speaking, you can make more parting out...but it's a LOT more work.

Not Parting Yet
Hoping this doesn't fill my PM box with requests for parts - I'm months away from digging into it and making the part or sell as a roller decision - just looking for some upfront input...
The car is an '85 Carrera Cabriolet (I bought it for the 3.2 and trans - intend to rebuild both and drop into my SC). The chassis/body appears to be in pretty good shape. Interior is pretty much shot (anything that can be ruined by mildew, is). Here's a quick photo, after a quick clean up: ![]() Gordo

Good Deal Or Not
Been a while since I picked up the '85 Cab. Shortly after I started this thread, my younger brother said he wanted it. I bought the car for $5,500; a pretty good deal since I was looking at paying that much for a motor...
I told him I wanted the engine, trans, DME w/harness and the Carrera oil cooler - he could have the remaining "roller" for $2,500. I also gave him the parts that came with the car when I bought it: a new rag top (in the box), a new dash, new stock Carrera steering wheel, and a boatload of receipts for parts that were installed shortly before the previous owner parked it (brakes etc). The body is in pretty good shape but the paint is horrible. The interior is pretty ratty but can be cleaned up with a new carpet set and seats (door panels and other odds and ends are good). I wanted to give him a reasonably good deal on the car while I got a good deal on the parts I wanted for my car (after all, I actively searched for an engine/donor for over 2 years to find a deal). What do you think? I obviously made out on the engine/trans and stuff; did I do him right on the roller? Gordo

Good decision, I hate it when someone parts out what appears to be a car that could be put back on the road. I say wait until it has bee wrecked or burned or something catastrophic
