I am trying to reset the EGR light on my 1977 911S. According to the Haynes manual there should be an mileage counter behind the tach or speedo, that controls when the EGR light lights up. Well, I pulled out the tach, speedo, and temp/pressure guages, but I can't find anything resembling a mileage counter. I did try to follow the wire to the EGR light, but it quickly disappears into a wiring bundle. Any help finding the mileage counter would be greatly appreciated. Or I could just do the 'hacky' solution and simply disconnect the EGR light.
Thanks, Dave

I'm not sure what the mileage activated light is supposed to tell you? Does the EGR need some type of service?

I think that it is supposed to tell you to have the pollution control devices 'serviced', which on a stock middle year car would be the air pump and thermal reactors. But... somehow mine no longer has any of these devices

Bringing this thread back from the dead... The EGR light came on in my '77 this week. I looked up egr reset, egr light, egr lamp, egr, 1977 egr here on Pelican and didn't find a pic of the reset button. So here it is...
Sorry for the blurry pics. The egr reset box is located right behind the speedo. Using a pen I pressed in the button on the lower right of the box, heard a click, and that was it. Good for another 30k miles. ![]() ![]() |
