Question engine shroud color

after searching and reading all posts about engine shroud color and engine numbers I now believe that 911S's all should have red shrouds. Checking my numbers, 6341217 and 911/93, I seem (?) to have the S engine. But I have a slime green shroud! with over $30,000 worth of receipts from P.O. I don't see where the shroud was changed anywhere. is this the correct color shroud for a 74 911S? Not a big deal but I am curious.
found an informative site for checking chassis numbers and stuff:
www.0-100.it/porsche/chassis/chassis_engl.html
thanks for any info

Re: engine shroud color

With early 911s, it is my understanding that:

T cars: yellow shrouds;
E cars: green shrouds; and
S cars: red shrouds.

A red shroud allows 7k rpm+ jaunts and adds about 12hp.

Regards,

Kurt

John,

In '74, the red shrouds were only found on the the two MFI engines, the ROW model's 2.7 Carrera and RS 3.0. The '74 US brochure showed the 2.7 CIS engine with a green shroud.

From The 1974 Factory Parts Catalog (USA/Canada models):

74 911 shroud is PN 911.106.901.06 (black)
74 911S shroud is PN 911.106.901.05 (green)

No differences in the shape - just color?

Hmm, think I've got a can of red spray paint around here somewhere...

Green is orig. on my '77 CIS. Painted it ruby red[356 color]. Still in perfect shape after 20,000mi. Used acrylic urethane. Ruby Red is in blue/red area rather than orange/red area of guards red. Have paint code and name in Sherwin-Williams. I like darker reds.

For what it's worth, my 1975 911S has a slime green shroud too. From what I'm reading, it's likely that it's appropriate for the '74S.
