Early Indicator/Headlight Combo Switch

Hello, when moving between main beam and dipped light, sometimes they do not change and sometime the lights go out altogether (intermediate state as one bulb extinguishes but the other fails to come on) which is somewhat disconcerting whilst driving around the country at night! My local garage told me I need to replace the entire combination switch (901.613.301.02 - chrome stalks, blank handles) which of course is NLA. I have found used examples of 901.613.301.03 but am not certain this will work on my car (1967/68 European 911T with a VIN in the range of 11820001 - 11820928). Would appreciate if someone could advise? Also does the .03 unit have chrome or black stalks (I would like to keep chrome as original and symmetry with wiper stalk). If not, are the stalks/handles interchangeable or are they 'permanently' attached to the switch? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Hi there. Not to fret. This is a common problem with the headlight flasher switch. More often than not it is the headlamp flasher switch in the turn signal/flasher stalk. While not always sucessful, this thread (details the repairs: turn signal switch quick fix pictures

You can also get a used headlight flaasher switch from a breaker yard for about 1/2 the price.

In any event, when you get it fixed, also install a set of relays for your headlamps to reduce the current the switch handles. Since you have a pre-1974, you ned to make your own. If you can follow an electrical diagra, you can build one with two relays and some wire. This drawing has all the details (and much more). Just do top part (forget about the driving and fog lamps for now) with the upper two relays.
