Help with Alternator grounding

Hi All,

On removal of my alternator, due to a fault with engine shutting down when electrical loads are introduced, I noticed there was one brown wiring just sitting in there.

I know there is a grounding wiring introduced between the alternator and the engine casing. Threads everywhere mentions this.

But no where can i figure out where the ground wire is supposed to attach to the alternator.

Typical statements are as below;
One end connects to the engine casing, and the other connects to the alternator.

My question is, which part of the alternator.
The D- stud, or just any part of the alternator body?

Thanks all.

Some pics from my 86' when I did my engine drop.Heavy Gage brown wire for the alt ground was attached to the alt stud with the spacer nut at top of the diode pack(?).I believe one went to the case the other(smaller Gage wire, brown)went to the ground stud at the manifold along with multiple other small Gage brown wires.....I cannot remember for sure about the small Gage brown, from memory..

Note:The red power wires 1 heavy and several smaller gage wires attaching to the other (lower side of the diode pack),both the power and ground wires will attach between the spacer nut and the smaller securing nut.so that neither one will directly touch the alt body.

+1 on the location on my '87 too.
Sorry my pic lacks color and detail - top down look with the case wire terminated to the ALT (passenger side on a LHD) using a ring lug.

Cheers guys,
you're the best.
The service bulletin wasn't specific on where the thicker ground from the engine was to hook up to. From ur Picts, I can see it hooks up to the "D1" terminal, ie common ground terminal of the alternator.
Thanks again gang

I used some dielectric on the ground to case connection as it's prone to corrosion around here

grease will do in a pinch
