Hot tick

Hi All. Have an 88 carrera...3.2 with a noticable tick. Sounds like a noisy lifter, but it seems to get more pronounced the hotter the engine gets. Thought possibly exhaust leak, but that would get quieter with heat. Sounds like only drivers side, can hear it better while driving. Have new MK muffler and Premuffler on it if that helps. Other then that, recent valve adjustment..plugs...O2...full tune-up basically. Any thoughts?

Sounds to me like a valve that wasn't quite adjusted right. I've had it happen to me once or twice. Just my $.02.

I'm with Graham, probably a maladjusted valve...but it doesn't hurt to put a hose to your ear and search all the new exhaust connections. I'd look for the exhaust leak first, before digging into another valve adjustment.

I'm with Kidrock and gtc a hose or an $10 Mechanics Stethoscope should pin point where it is coming from, then you can make the call, the adjustment may have been correct and it could just be a weak spring.

The free stethoscope is a long screwdriver pushed firmly against the front part of your ear and then to the engine area you think the issue is coming from. Be careful etc etc.

For optimal results, place a few oil smears randomly around your face, have a nearly burned out cigarette hanging off the side of your mouth, push your trousers down for a bit of mechanics cleavage and wear the dirtiest t-shirt you can fine. Frequent release of gases and cussin is optional.

Perhaps valves guides , but sincerely , i know a lot of 911 motors with this "tick" and thats seems to me normal.

Do you have oil consomation ???

Thank you for the replies... I thought valve out of adjustment as well, but that should get quieter with heat. No oil consumption..yet. I will have to re-check the exhaust..and the valves. Nice of you fellas to chime in. On another note...I cannot believe the difference with the M+K exhaust. So far my best coin spent...nothing sounds like it..

I have experienced a perfect wurrrr at start up and as the motor warmed a tick had developed from a valve that needed adjusting. My $.02...
