SC Cruise control wiring at clutch switch
Just to preface this inquiry, as some of you may know, I rebuilt an SC. Complete tear down, rotisserie and rebuild. So, I had the entire wiring harness out. I've had her all back together for almost a year now, but the only electrical item that is still non-functional is the cruise. I remember last year trying to figure it out and had gone through the troubleshooting list in Bentley. Everything checked out, so I thought likely meant either a faulty servo or control unit. Today I had a look at it again, but this time, after looking at the schematic, I thought I'd check the relay in the fuse box first. It looks like that relay should click on with the key, unless the clutch is depressed, pressing the clutch should click it on and off. This was not happening. So I pulled the relay out and checked to make sure there was 12V on the coil - there was, but it was not getting ground on the other side of the coil. This would indicate a faulty clutch switch. I know when I reassembled the pedal assy, I made sure to check the clutch switch and attach the wires to it, so I know this was working. But, I pulled up the floorboard today, anyway just to be sure. As anyone knows who has tried to work on this switch - its a bugger to get to. I did verify the wires were connected fine. A brown wire on one terminal and two brown/white wires on the other. While digging around in that area, I found an unconnected male terminal with a plastic shroud over it. I vaguely remember this wire without a home when I was rewiring the car. One of those things I should have made a note of, I guess. Anyway, just for the heck of it, I connected my volt meter to it with the other lead to ground and found that when I depressed the clutch, it made connection to ground.
The crazy thing is, that it is not connected to the three wires (one brown, two brown/white) that connect to the clutch switch (at least locally). Those three wires are in a bundle that heads back up into the front trunk. I can't really identify where that extra wire terminal without a home comes from, but I think it comes out of one of the wire bundles that goes through the tunnel. Anyway, it appears that this wire should have a mate that likely brings that clutch switch connection back to the relay. I've looked around and can't find it. If anyone else has dug around this area and understands what I'm describing and can help figure this out, I'd appreciate it. I've included a couple pictures that show the three wires going to the clutch switch and the lonely termination that doesn't have a home but does switch to ground when the clutch is depressed. Thanks.
