I have jacked up the car, and been crawling under with a flashlight. I still canīt find the serialnumbers on the transmission.
Were are the numbers ? If I find them (with your help), were can I find a "numberkey" so I know what fabricationyear my 915 tranny is ? /v8tod ![]()

tod,
They are on a transverse bottom rib, closest to the drain plug ... and, unfortunately, subject to being damaged by scraping ...if the car has been driven over curbs, large rocks, etc. I have seen partly obliterated type numbers and serial numbers hard to read, but it would take some abuse of legendary proportions to remove ALL or the numbers! Ubfortumately, there isn't one source for all of the data identifying the entire run of 915 type numbers! The factory service manual has some info, but not all, and you would need all of the spec books covering '72 thru '86 models to have all of the information at your fingertips!

tod,
Early cases were magnesium, which is 'darker' in color and oxidize easily. and later cases were aluminum, which remains shiny.
