Removing Pedal Cluster in 87 911

Hello to anyone who has any experience here.

I want to rebuild my pedal cluster but I don't want to get into a bigger project than anticipated. Bentlley page 301-15 seems to say that the clutch master cylinder needs to be removed to do this. Is this correct? Can't one just remove the pedal cluster without removing the clutch master cylinder? It sure looks that way. But, appearances can be deceptive.

Thanks for any help!

Greg

It's kinda a pain in the ass. Why do you want to do it?

and if I remember correctly there are two linkages to the MC from the pedal cluster. I think the clutch is not that bad cus its a ball a socket that just pops off. i could be wrong though.

Thanks Packy.

I want to take out the pedal cluster to restore it primarily by putting in bronze bushings. It looks simple but I know with Porsche that can be deceptive. I would like to do it without removing the clutch master cylinder. But Bentley's seems to say no.

If anyone has removed the cluster on a 87-89, I would like to here how difficult it is.

I'l lhave t subscribe this thread.
I was looking at the pedal cluster myself because the clutch pedal made some noises but to my untrained eye it seemed like a rather interesting job.

Me thinks you can just remove the linkage pin between the pedal and the MC?

The clutch master cylinder connects directly to the pedal assembly. Yes you want to remove the clutch master because otherwise you would need to disconnect the 2 hoses, plug them, and then bleed the system when you are done.

If you have small hands it is pretty easy. With big hands it isn't too hard though. The little things that are irritating are trying to reach the throttle linkage ball joint, loosening the 2 nuts on the clutch master, replacing the clutch master boot, having to drop the steering rack splash pan to get at the 2 bolts under it, and getting the clutch helper linkage to stay in the up position when you are putting it back together. (When it falls down it jams the pedal.)

I'm not aware of any bronze bushings being available for the G50 pedal assembly. All the bushings are very thin plastic and all the part numbers shown for it in PET are plastic.
