Rear tail light fogs up after wash, does not go away
After washing my car, my right tail light lens always becomes fogged up. It will not defog even after sitting in the hot sun all afternoon. I eventually will have to remove the lens and let it sit over night. Now I did a restoration on it two years ago, I replaced the rubber drain tubes, I used new seals. But the right side always does this, not the left, not the front lens. Last time I even used weatherstrip sealant and glued the top edge of the lens to the seal. Am I missing anything? Does any one else have this problem. Could I have a bad drain with no hole in it due to bad injection molding?
Any help is appreciated. |
I rebuilt my tail lights and installed new rubber drain thingies. One of the drains was badly moulded and the drain tube would not function. So, yes, pull those things out and have a look at them.

The rubber drain pipe on my '87 protrudes a bit past a hole in some frame if I recall correctly. You should be able to see it by peeking under there. If you can see it, it may be bent. If you can see it, maybe try sliding a pipe cleaner in it / chk for blockage in situ.

post a pic,
It may be that the light housing may not be seated properly causing the edge of the lens to protrude causing moisture intrusion to the point it will not all drain out even with the drain plugs My issue was after a rain, moisture would get in thru the rear cover of the housing. I removed and re-caulked, no more fogging. |
