If you're opening the crank case and adding a bigger
oil pump then you should do this mod while you're in there. Don't forget to get the different pressure relief pistons or it won't work. andy |

The mod reduces the amount of oil in the case, which puts more elsewhere in the engine. It takes about 5 minutes to do and only cost about $1 in material. So why not do it if you are splitting the case?
Even with the old pump it is still worthwile to do. But no, you do not NEED to do it.

In addition to the bypass mod you should do the following (if not done already):
source an aluminum SC pump. not mandatory but will be a much better pump down the road. The mag pumps will distort over time causing pressure loss and binding. time cert the 5 rear perimeter studs. These tend to pull threads so tackle them while the case is apart. case savers. If your case does not have them already it is wise to have them done while the engine is apart.
