mfi adjustment

Ive read lots of mfi info is the part load adjustment screw a flat or an allen? I believe its a allen? But not sure what is right. Lee Rice info says long skinny flat blade. Wayne's book states allen is their both? Thanks to all...

Yes, you need both slotted and Allen wrenches. The slotted adjustment screw is inside the body of the pump, and an Allen bolt serves as a cap/plug over the screw. You should carefully clean all the way around the Allen bolt before loosening it -- to make sure any dirt or gunk will not be knocked into the pump when inserting the adjustment screwdriver blade!!!

I can see the reason for confusion here. In Wayne's book he refers to an allen head adjustment INSIDE the pump behind the allen head bolt on the face of the pump. This is incorrect, at least on the 72 2.4 pump. The bolt on the face of the pump is a 5mm allen head bolt, behind it is a small slotted adjustment screw set 2" or so into the body of the pump.

I have a small screwdriver I use to adjust it - the sort that are made to clip onto your shirt pocket work well.

The 2.0 E MFI in my car is also the same as Jeff described. I've got a really long (home made) screwdriver that came from the previous owner. It fits throught the access hole in the fan shroud and reaches all the way back to the adjustment screw. It was made per a drawing in the Bosch MFI service manuals.

to make that long screwdriver, use a piece of welding rod and hammer the end flat and square it off with a file or grinder. then bend a loop for the handle. make it long enough to extend past the fan housing for ease of use. the adjustment is rich counterclockwise.
