Shift coupler adjustment

I just installed a factory short shift kit, Robo Tek, & Stromski shift coupler. I followed the directions from previous posts, when installing,& test drove. Everything was ok,except a slight nick in reverse. I was backing into the garage & the shift coupler was not tight enough & slipped on the splines. Now reverse is in the neutral position, I am having a hard time getting the transmission to the neutral position. Help!! Thanks Craig

That is a good procedure.

Rotate the shift coupler clockwise with right hand and pull the shifter toward your thigh with left hand. Tighten. From there it is just a matter of carefully loosening and tightening until you get it how you want it. THEN MARK IT WITH A SHARPIE PEN! You wont have to do it again. I always thought that doing the adjustment was easier if you have a great big vacant parking lot.

If your hving a hard time keeping the lever in position-toward drivers seat, take a bungy cord and wrap it around shifter and stretch it to door handle or any other place that you might be able to hook it. Makes it much easier adj the coupler.

Thanks to every one for your suggestions. when the shift rod slipped, I reconnected to far in on the splines so all I could get was reverse. Once I got the Trans in neutral, it was a piece of cake. Man is the shifter tight & the throw short. I'm going to have to learn how to shift all over again !!! Thanks Again, Craig

I have the stromski in my 72. www.stromskiracing.com. I also have the weiltmeister short shift kit. When i took out the old coupler and moved it around, it felt loose in every direction. When you hold the stromski, it is a tight unit w\no play. Shifting is a little more precise. Is it worth it? yes. I don't think it will ware out like the stock unit does.
If I were to do it again I would start w\this: http://www.wevo.com/wevoshifter.htm as a short shift kit
