1976 930 turbo motor

There is a 1976 930 turbo motor for sale near me the guy is looking for $3200 and he says it has over 100,000miles on it and that it was running when it was removed form the car. The motor has chain tensioner upgrades and looks to be all there from the pics. Is this something I should buy? what is it worth? What 911 would this motor fit in? I don't know to much about this motor and would appreciate any info and advice i can get.

Saw that too. I would plan on a full rebuild with that many miles on a turbo motor. And there may be varnish inside the fuel distributor...big can of worms, but if you can rebuild it yourself, probably a good deal. It will fit 69-89 (yes, earlier, but that much weight in the back of a SWB car would be crazy) and you will most likely have to go to larger torsion bars in the back with matching fronts of course.

The good news is you may be able to get a set of good used 3.3 P/C that someone has taken off for more more power. But I don't think rebuilding any motor, especially a turbo, can be done on the cheap.

This would be a great motor for someone that has a 76 Turbo and wants to bring it back to concourse spec, though numbers wouldn't match.

Looks kinda scrungy, it is missing the intake pipes from the turbo to the intake. Has it been modded? I cant tell from the pics if the turbo is stock or a K27.First thing I would do is remove the valve covers and check for pulled or broken head studs. You should post this in the turbo forum, there are quite a few keen eye's over there that may pick things out that I missed.

That does not look like a '76. What is the type number (located by the fan on the PS)?

A 930 core engine used to be worth $4500. In today's market I'd say $2500. You're looking at a parts donor or a full rebuild that could go $15K.

I'd pass. In stock form they don't make a lot of horsepower and they have a pronounced lag.
Nice engine case though....
