Proper location for rear view mirror installation

I found one thread while searching (http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/105503-rear-view-mirror-location.html). I need to verify the proper location of the rear view mirror for an SC. My mirror broke off and I had ot replace the windshield. Not complete sure where the sucker goes now.

Took me a second attempt.

Right at the bottom edge of the shading, but in the shading.

If it's lower, you can only see the road right behind the car.

Too high and it interferes with the visors. (I have Carrera visors).

I used the adhesive when I put it on, but was able to remove the mirror by holding a lighter (leave it mounted on the puck) under the base of the mirror. Gently push up on the mirror. It pops off after 30 seconds or so. That's what my windshield 'professional' did.

Excellent tip with the lighter...I mounted mine too high and I was wondering how I was going to get that sucker off of there. Worked like a charm.

so on an 83, is it the adhesive tape, or a glue?

It goes on the windshield...on the inside. SmileWavy

...couldn't resist.

I just put mine on with mirror adhesive that you buy at auto parts stores. It is the best I think, dries clear. I did mine with one tube. It comes as a small kit with a pre wipe cleaner for the glass.

Good Luck on your trip,

Shane

Rearview mirror? What's that for I never look back!

Om the 83 it's glue.

Those pads are awful. They are just thick enough to let the mirror shake in the most irritating way.

You might think about going to Ebay and purchasing a self-dimming mirror with map lights incorporated. Makes a big difference in allowing a passneger to read maps with little or no light interfering with the driver's vision.
