muffler doesn't fit

Hell,

I'm rebuilding my 80sc 3.0 and am back dating the exhaust. The pre 74 heat exchangers fit great but the brushoff muffler wont fit? The exhaust pipe hits the two mounting bracket bolts on the engine/exhaust mount. I assume I need a different muffler? Or is there a way to make this one fit?
Thank you!!!!

Is that a Bursch??

opata 07-06-2010 10:58 AM

Yup its a bursch. Didn't cost much.....Got it on finally! Had to make some straps out of header duck tin. Then put bolts through it. I think it will hold. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1278442658.jpg

looks good now. i have a Bursch on my 911 '73 and love it. Mine has 3 tubular glasspack mufflers. 2 small ones nearest the flanges and one bigger one after the merge.

How does yours sound?

Would like to know more about the muffler staps you made.. what's the diameter and how did you do the ends where you bolted it ??

Hello,

I used the sheet of metal on the floor in the pic. Gotr it at home depot in the heating section....I cut 1.25" straps about 3ft. long. I then strapped them around the muffler. Kinda guessed where to drill holes in each end of each strap. Put a long 4" bolt through both wholes on the end of each strap and tightened them up. I then took the long bolt out and used a shorter one. Really the same thing as the regular straps you would buy just cut them long enough for my application. Well see if the don't melt or break when I get the engine back in the car.

thanks!
Alan
