"standard" M4 pitch?
I need to buy a tap for an M4 bolt application that I screwed up and want to be sure it's correct....
Are ALL M4 bolts/nuts/etc. on are cars .70 pitch? That seems to be the "standard" (course?) size. OR???? Is there a definitive chart somewhere for this information specific to our cars? BTW my car is a '72 T and the application is the 3 machine screws (on either side) that hold the hinge to the body for the rear flip-out window. That is the hinge at the aft section of the window that actually "flips" open. Thanks! |

M4 X0.70 is the standard metric course thread for M4, standard metric fine threads don't start until you reach 8mm and larger so there wouldn't be a fine thread for a M4.
Of course there is a possibility that the tread is a custom pitch, but highly unlikely. Hope this helps.

Thanks Matt. That's good information.
I've seen taps that are .70 pitch and ones that are .75 pitch. Everything I've seen and heard points to .70 being the standard so what would .75 be? |

It would be more coarse.

If you are seeing a thread that has a 0.75 pitch, then it is more likely a M4.5 X0.75, as this is the standard for a M4.5
