Advice on install of window channel "felt"
My electric window on the drivers side seems to drag and stick due to a
"gummy/sticky" felt window channel. I have aquired a new felt channel, but don't know if there is an easy way to install, or do I have to remove the whole window assy to get it done. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks, Grant

It can be done with the window still in there, it's just a pain and take patience.
Mine came out fairly easy because it was already trashed, and came out in peices, then the other can be sorta angled into place. I just did it with the window down and worked carefully with some really small screwdrivers and pliers to get it to pop in once the old one was out.

Its not that hard to take out the window assembly....and makes the job MUCH easier.

highly recommend removing the window assembly. it really isn't that hard - but getting the new felt to fit just right is harder. It can also be a pain to remove the old felt depending on condition.

leave the door panel in place. roll the window down and pull out the old channel. install the upper horizontal piece into the frame and tuck in the corners well. start the felt into the top two inches of the front and rear vertical frame. figure how much of the dangling ends will be inside the door and wet them with wet style spray silicone. do one at a time and finish that side before spraying the other. spray some down the channel into the door, not on the upper exposed part. feed the channel down into the frame as far as you can. raise the glass 3". push a screwdriver on an angle into the channel with the shaft sitting on the glass and lower the glass as you help the channel down in the process. repeat as needed. do the other side. about 5 minutes. works on cars that use the soft felt channel, not early cars that use a tough, glued in piece.

didn't realize they were different. I was referencing an early car which was a very significant PITA to remove the old.

Like John Walker, I think it is easier to do without taking the frame out which introduces so many variables and opportunities to screw something up. My tips: lube the track with liquid soap and once you get it in far enough to raise the window a bit and expose the bottom leading edge of the felt, grab it with a pair of long angles needle nose pliers to help pull down and push from above as well. You can also work the window up and down to get it in. Then really jam it home in the upper top corners the way you like it, pull the middle of the upper side out and apply the lightest of light applications of 3M trim glue.
