Yes, I'm discovering new bits and pieces all the time on my 87 Cab! I've just rotated the gauges to accomodate my smaller steering wheel and I'm afraid I may have broken something off in the process...........

I have a plastic/cloth tube/pipe that is not connected to anything...here's a decription.

Immediately under the fresh air plenium intake, crossing the width of the car, inside the luggage area, is the window washer pipes. Along this same line of travel is this pipe thats not connected. Its made of a cloth type material approx 8mm in diameter. It has an open end with a broken piece of plastic tube sitting inside with a diameter of about 4mm, and is located near the brake fluid reservior. As I said, it then travels across the car (with the window washer pipes) in the form of a cloth type pipe, then changes to a plastic tube when it meets the fender. It then heads along the fender to the front and exits through a rubber gommeted hole into the lower part of the wheel well where again its just an open end.

Any ideas what this might be for? I've search through my Bentley but can't seem to identify it and it scares me it might be something of significance to safety.

Is it a light/medium gray braided tubing material? As in the brake fluid reservoir overflow?

Yep, it is the same colour braided line but it's not the overflow...that's about 15mm in diameter, and is connected.

Any other ideas? PLEASE.

I'm voting for the brake fluid reservoir overflow too. I'd guess that the 15mm one is the vacuum line...

Thanks guys...it was the vent line (page 470-5 Bentley!!). A previous owner has obviously broken it off. The point at which the pipe should join to the reservoir has been heated up and sealed over with its own plastic! The braided pipe was just left hiding under the carpet.

Ok so now I'll try to bore the hole out (watch those fragments fall into the reservoir) and reconnect the hose. A job for later in the morning...its 12.17am and its too dark to see what I'm doing properly.
