With the engine at idle the drivers side of the exhaust system is considerably noiser. A low thrub, thrub , thrub noise.
This is absent from the other side. The outside of the heat exchanger is full of rust holes, but I thought the actual header part was OK. Blocking up the end of the exhaust, I can't see any leaks. Does a broken head stud sound like a blowing exhaust at idle, or is the head stud blowing thing only evident at high revs? Cheers, Jon |

My 2.7L motor with pulled studs sounded and idled great. But when reved it sounded like a bad exhaust leak.

I have a similar curiosity and have asked the Board, but apparently this kind of diagnosis may not be very conclusive. I have a broken head stud and I also have the drubbing idle. And popping on deceleration. Within the next couple of months or so, I'll fix the stud and whatever else is wrong, and my findings will be posted.
