Porsche Crest Steering wheel wobble (WHEN PARKED)

Hey Everybody!

I have a '82 911SC and my steering wheel wobbles.
This happens when I am parked and driving!
I took the steering wheel off and saw what looked to be a disintegrated plastic ring. Has anyone ever seen this? Where do I get a new ring?

PS - I have an automatic watch and the wobble is making my time run fast!

Thank you!

Common problem. Well documented if you do a search.

Pelican has a bushing that will fix this problem. Look under steering components (I think).

Welcome to our BBS.

Your steering wheel bushing needs replacement.

This Tech Article is helpful: Pelican Technical Article: 911 Steering Column Bushing Replacement.

See this warning by John Walker: problems arising with metal steering bushing

There is alternative product as well: Pelican Parts - Product Information: PEL-ML-STR

Steering Wheel Wobble Fix...

Before your Rolex Explodes here's what you want to do, and not do... Install Pelican P/N PEL-ML-STR. This is a self lubricating Nylon steering support bushing that is easily installed, probably will outlive your car, it won't rattle, and it's easily removable it if becomes necessary.

OK, I'm slightly prejudice... I designed and manufacture this high quality part for Pelican Parts. What I can tell you is that I've had enough e-mails asking how you remove the metal sleeves to be fair warning if removal becomes necessary. In some cases the metal sleeves become lodged in between the roller bearing and the steering shaft and they cannot be removed. For the savings of $10 it's not worth the risk, plus you have metal to metal wear.

Here's some pixs of the PEL-ML-STR bushing, Pelican now carries the replacement bushing for the early cars.

Sugejager,

If you have any questions regarding the install just PM me and we'll try and help. Just remember to leave the "star washer" out on the assembly. Oh, and follow the directions, I promise you it will be slam dunk...
