Thumbs up Show me your engines III

G'day all, well this is my engine just about complete. What started as a week long project has turned into nearly a month. But I'm thinking the results are worth it. The engine now has a new gasket kit through it and will hopefully be a dry one! I'll post some more photos when the engine/gearbox and exhaust (new mille miglia) are ready to go in.

Looks great John. Did you do any rebuilding besides the gasket kit?

Yes John, very nice.
I assume since you say that it started as a week long project, that it is mainly a re-gasketing job.

The air intake looks very shiny. Did you paint it?
What did you do to the fan and housing?

Yeah, gasket kit only, but thanks to John Walker I identified that I've been running a 2 litre set up with my webers rather than the correct 2.2 litre jetting. So hopefully I'll notice some difference out on the road. Also found the cam dial up was slightly wrong, so once again maybe I'll pick up some gains. I hope the new muffler will make a difference too.

I've painted the air cleaner in 2-pack gloss along with the inlet manifold. My mate's garage is also home to a Ferrari 348(a long term customer's) and I was really taken with the wrinkle finish on it's engine. So whilst I was at it I painted the upper rocker covers, cam chain housing and their covers all in wrinkle finish. My car is not standard, so I didn't see the point in keeping the dreary looking off colour magnesium. For contrast I also painted the shroud an orange/red as I don't like the "boring" 911T black one. The only other real upgrade I did was to add turbo lower covers.

My wife still isn't happy with me for baking the 2-pack paint work in her oven....but what's a bit of lead between lovers

Oh, the fan and shroud got the 2000 grit wet and dry followed by "mothers alloy polish" for the mirror finish you see. I know it probably won't last, but it'll look good for photos at least. I've been asked to use the car for a TV add for another friend's exhaust shop, so it'll be famous soon!
