Throttle bellcrank!
Hey,
The saga continues, after replacing the stock airbox for a Webb Industries SS beauty, sorting out all the previously mentioned gremlins associated with the replacement, I noticed the throttle was "sticky". Upon further examination of the pedal, linkage and other stuff leading to the engine compartment, I found the engine mounted bell crank assembly had a lot of slop and was binding. I removed the assy and found this: ![]() I fired up the lathe and pulled some brass stock out of the pile and turned some new bushings. ![]() I epoxied the little suckers in place, and then reamed them to fit the shaft. I also drilled some .050" holes in the top of the bracket thru the bushings to allow a drop of lube to sit in the indention and lube the shaft. ![]() 0 slop, 0 friction, nice new throttle action: ![]() Oh yes the bell crank on the left side of the assy was crimped on and starting to come loose, I ground the plating off and welded the sucker to the shaft, like the factory should have. Check yours, if and when it comes off, the car will do nothing but idle. eric

Sometimes it's the attention to little things that make all the difference in the pleasure of the drive.
Good job. Now I think I'll have a look at mine. Bob

Nice work.
I love these homemade fixes. I've spent my hours making or repairing parts that i could buy cheaper than the labor i have in them. But the rewards are far greater.

Thanks guys,
I spent a previous career as a fabricator/aircraft mechanic, turning bushings isn't really fabricating, but what the heck, its fixing broken stuff with something other than the original replacement parts, and I think its a better fix. My next project is on the bench, I am making a rear seat delete from aluminum sheet, aircraft style, lots of rivets and holes for lightening. Will post when it is closer to install. eric
