Anyway to tell what year this is with no date stamp?

Stacked MO-MO on the back

I'd say 68-70.

Notwithstanding that it was on a '72 I believe that the wheel was manufactured in the late 60's to very early 70's.

"Sports purpose" Momo
 

Hey Jim. This is a true gem of a wheel.

This type of early prototipo, with three spoke pads instead of the usual two is an extremely rare Momo. I've been tracking these wheels for a while now and THE ONLY TIME I've seen them appear is on race cars with quite a bit of history. I'm sure David P. would agree with that, he's got a really nice one. As Michael stated, the stacked MO-MO started from approximately 1968 and was found on Momo wheels to about 1975.

I've put together some photos of a few cars that had this type of prototipo on them and you can see... they are pretty neat cars. This is a true "sports purpose" Momo prototipo... I wouldn't be surprised if these special, dished Momos were specially made for race drivers, possibly at someone's request. I don't think they were available to general public at the time. I first saw one on a 917 and I still have the photo. I've also occasionally seen them show up on a few racing Alfas and Ferraris. If you're into Porsche racing history, I'm sure you can appreciate these fantastic old Momos.

I like the Prototipo with the middle spoke padded thumb-rest at 6 0'clock. Seems the newer ones only have this on the horizontal pair.

That is a '68 - 70 wheel, from early production. The purpose built early race wheels generally have a small diameter center - they're barely big enough to support a Momo 6 bolt hub pattern, because Momo hadn't settled on a pattern at this early stage. I'll put up a pic when I get home from Thanksgiving.

They came undrilled because Momo didn't yet make hubs. That's why you frequently see Momo '1' wheels with Nardi, Corvette, etc drillings.

Thanks David. I remember that wheel from ebay and nearly bid on it myself. Nick sent me a photo of it after he got it and I was amazed at what he paid ;)
