Rear suspension finally complete, photo
Here's a photo of the 73 S rear suspension, I installed aluminum arms from a 76, monoball inner bearing, sway-a-way spring plates, 27mm torsion bars, all new brake and fuel lines. Thanks to another Pelican I found out about shrink tape. Where I could not use shrink wrap, I repaired the wiring harness with tape. It really works well.
Hopefully I'll have the engine together by Cambria weekend. I've had the car on stands longer than I've had it on the road. ![]() Bruce Herrmann |

I used Dynamat on trans tunnel to quiet road noise and trans. gear whine. After doing serious work on a 911 you may never be the same. What is next project planned.

I thought about the Dynamat, I'll see how much noise this set-up makes and maybe I'll wish I had. It's not a daily driver so I really don't mind the noise.
This is just another in a long line of projects on 911's I've either chosen to do or had circumstance dump in my lap. Either way, I enjoy working on them only slightly less than driving them so it's all good. |

Bruce,
Gorgeous, clean undercarriage! Nice ORANGE Koni's, too. When I replaced my factory Konis at about 60K ... I was confronted with having to clean up and repaint the dust covers, since there weren't any new ones in the box, so after chemically removing all of the paint and treating the rust, I had a bunch of bolts and hardware going to the plater, so I just threw them in and had them Cadmium-plated. After getting them back, I put some Koni stickers on them and sprayed them with several coats of clear laquer for protection. Not exactly original in appearance like yours, but gets a few comments from those that like the gold Cadmium finish!

Warren, wouldn't it be nice if the cad plating process was a little more user friendly? I'd plate anything that moved. Eastwood had a good idea with the paint thing but it just is not the same.
I've tried to match Koni orange with some luck but never hit it on the head. I painted the tunnel the same color as the gas tank and the rest of the undercarriage. My assumption, and it's only that, is that the factory painted the undercarriage first then shot the body color as these early cars (72 on or so) seem to have overspray of the body color to various degrees in the tunnel areas and elsewhere. I decided to skip the overspray and not to try to duplicate the factory look, just a clean line between body color and the grey. Works for me. Bruce |
