Full Lock Steering Problem
Hi, I am a first timer on this bulletin board, can anyone help. I have a 1988 Carrera 3.2 with 106k on the clock. I do about 1k a month and it is my daily driver. About 300 miles ago a knocking sound and a strong vibration was felt through the steering wheel when reversing (from right to left) out of my drive on full lock. It appears to be getting worse with a quite a lot of feedback in the form of a clicking vibration coming back through the steering and front suspension. My local specialists can not look at it for another couple of weeks.
Any ideas on what it could be and if it is serious? confused: |
Tires rubbing on the inner fender well. That's all I can think of.

could be tie rod ends?? Just a shot in the dark

Two things - If you are misaligned, the tires can "catch and release" can cause weird noises. Or... Loose struts?

Thank you for your feedback. The Car is booked in to see local specialist Tognola Engineering in Datchet (nr London) next week. I will let you know the outcome.

Full Lock Steering Problem
The problem is now sorted.
Badly aligned front suspension resulted in the right front tyre wearing out (bald) on the inside. The wet weather in England and damp roads resulted in the tyre slipping on the bald inside part when on full lock, resulting in the juddering felt at the steering wheel. Four wheel re-alignment and new tyres have cured the problem. Thank you to those that posted a response to this issue. Jav |
