front end noise

This past weekend while on a 800 km drive my 79 SC developed a vibration / hum coming from the front of the car. At fist I thought it was brake related but as the drive continued the noise would go away, only to come back an hour later, the same noise came and went over the course of the drive 6-7 times. The only thing that was unusual to me was when turning corners to the left, the noise would completely go away but come back right away as the wheels straighten out. This noise didn't cause any vibration of the steering wheel although it was noticeable. Any one have any experience with this type of thing?

I'd say left front wheel bearing.
