ignition coil dust cover and msd

the other day i washed the porsche.
when i backed up it shut off and would not start
pulled the dust cover from the coil and water came out.
the msd was fried as i shorted the + and - with the water...

I had the dust cover turned with the hole up so water could not escape.

As i replaced the msd with the same model i cut off the mag pickup wire connection.

the car ran bad backfired and shut off and on.
After i examined all of the new wiring for the msd, i noticed that the magnetic pickup wire connection was very close to the metal 2 stage rear window defroster relay.
I put a piece of rubber between the relay and the msd connection and viola...the car is running perfectly.
I think this was an intermittent problem for the past 8 years. I would not have found it if i did not have the dust cover problem and if i would not have replaced the msd.
Simple things sometimes are the hardest to discover.
