Old Bosch distributor question
Hi,
I'm replacing the Marelli in my '71 T with a Bosch 0 231 159 001 cast iron distributor I picked up many years ago without a cap. I ordered a cap from our host. It's the OEM cap listed for Bosch distributors 65-73, part no. 911-602-933-00-M14 It's not exactly the right cap, though it could be made to work by filing away part of the white plastic insulator for the wire stud that connect to the points. The cap itself is notched for the locating tab (lower red arrow in photo of cap below) and 180 degrees from it there is a notch, presumably for the points connector. On this distributor the locating tab on the clamp and the connector for the points are only about 25 degrees apart. Anybody familiar with this situation? Is the correct cap is still available? If not, see any reason I can't make it work by either grinding a notch in the cap or making the plastic insulator flush with the distributor body so the cap doesn't need a notch? Thanks in advance for any help. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Paul - I don't believe that the old style caps with the notch for the insulator are still available.
Just dremel out a notch in the cap where the insulator fits. Don't mess with the insulator. Should work fine. Gary

They are available, Made by Bremi #8017 and should be available thru Pelican. Call a sales guy to check.

Thanks Gary. I think you're right that I should notch out the cap rather than mess with the insulator. I'm probably more likely to run across the correct cap someday than I am to ever find that insulator by itself.

Aaron - Beautiful. I saw the Bremi part listed on Pelican, but I didn't see any pictures that would tell me if it was the same or different from the Bosch. It looks like that will work perfectly. I didn't fire up the dremel yet so I ought to be able to return the Bosch capand get the Bremi.
Thanks! |

Check the curve to be sure it is correct for your car. The cast iron distributors are for older cars. Rob
