Euro Spec vs. American 911
What is the differences between the American 911's (1984-1989) and the European ones?
Thanks |

Lots. Mainly the higher compression +23 HP ......some of them were built on Mondays so the steering wheel was mistakenly put over to the passenger side.

Much easier to find one without a sunroof in Europe and some of them had gearbox coolers.

As was mentioned on an earlier post, the standard power is significantly higher. All the Euro's with 915's that I've seen, do have the tranny cooler. The rest of the differences, I believe, are mostly cosmetic, rear fog light(s), marker lights on the front fenders and much smaller (and nicer) rear bumperettes come to mind. My Euro has all of these differences.... hope this helps, Cheers

Suspension also lower though you can lower the US version yourself to Euro specs.
Also I think there's no catalytic. Rear bumper pads are smaller and farther apart to accomodate the wide Euro plates.

Funny ... I think the euro versions are much more likely to be at "euro height" also, but I think you'd have to raise most US cars quite a bit to get there ... the euro ones are more likely still at the 108/16 torsion bar heights from the manual.

Speedomter is KPH only on mine and I have actually talked my way out of a ticket when I pointed it out to the officer and told him it was hard doing conversion in my head when going that fast.

The rear bumper pads are narrower but the outside edges align with the outside edges of the US pads (BTW, 1974 US cars also had those narrow pads - first year of the impact bumper). Last edited by tcar; 07-18-2010 at 03:13 PM.. |

"Functionality" aside, I think I'd opt for the smaller, less obtrusive ones.....if I had the choice....LOL.

I don't know how people without the big US bumper pads do a valve adjustment, or any other engine work up top for that matter! I sit on one and put beer & tools on the other. My back is very thankful for their presence ....
