I've just installed a new clutch cable, omega spring and clutch return spring. The trouble I am having is that after setting up the new cable following the instructions Pete Zimmermann thoughtfully put on this forum very,very carefully, the space between the throw-out arm and the clutch arm (set to be 1.2mm) disappears and presses hard up against each other when I depress the clutch pedal. I find if I then pull the clutch pedal back towards the steering wheel, the gap at the throw-out arm returns to the correct gap. The clevis fork is set at the correct gap of 6 threads as well at the pedal end.
Any ideas as to what may be the problem? I've checked the part numbers on both the clutch pedal return spring (definitely the correct one for a 11/1976 C3) and the omega spring I bought was part number 930116 064 06 M260, which is for 911/991 Turbo (1976-77). My car's gearbox has proven to be an "in-between years" box, with some aspects of the pre-'76 915 components and some post '76. Could it be that my car should have the post '76 spring which is part number 915-116-064-01-M260 for the later SCs? I understand that the Omega spring is responsible for returning the pedal to its full height, could the spring I have not enough tension and this is the problem?

The big spring and clutch arms are first seen in the US on the 77 911. The 77 euro I owned had the earlier style single arm and no power brakes.
If you have the dual clutch arms you need the specific 911 clutch cable. Bruce |

Thanks Bruce. I 'should' have the right cable as there is only one with the "loop" end, all the rest have threads.

The cable going into the clevice on the foot well needs about 20 turns of thread to be in far enough.
Make sure your cable cover is tight to the fire wall guide. I like to take a long screwdriver and hammer and tap it to seat. now all the adjustment to the clutch and pedal is off the pair of 15mm ajustment nuts on the bottom of the transmission. Moving the cable forward lifts the pedal up and then lifts the engagement of the clutch to the desired height. With the proper amount of threads on the clevice and you are hooked to the clutch levers and seated to the firewall, all adjustment is on the 2, 15mm nuts. Bruce |
