Weltmiester vs JM strut brace
I'm trying to decide between the more expensive Weltmiester vs cheaper (by ~$100) JM strut brace for my 83 SC. Any opinions on the quality and ease of installation of one vs the other?

I have the JM bar and I am very happy with it. Well made, very easy to install. The mounting brackets are now curved to fit the shape of the strut tower top (previously the brackets were flat). All in all a great value IMHO.

I don't understand why people continue to buy the Weltmeister in spite of it's known issues. It's pretty ugly on top of that, too.

There are SOO many better alternatives these days. I've been running the BK bars exclusively on all my street Pcars for years now.

Other than to clearnace the area around the Strut tower the ONLY reason I still have one in my car is I can fit a Full Sized Spare under it! But for Strength I used one that was Crossed Braced to a Place mounted on the Trunk floor.

A strut brace for a 911 isn't a complex issue. Not sure there's a whole lot of difference when it comes down to it. At any rate, the end result might be negligible to minor in a street vehicle no matter whose bar is used. The WM is fine with a modification to the top plates. That said, I replaced the relatively heavy steel tube and hardware with lighter aluminum pieces and modified one of the mounts to add a triangulated bar. BTW, no access issues to the smuggler's box.

Wow that is nice sherwood, cost effective and probably a fun project.
As mentioned above the Weltmeister is a problem unless modified it does not let the top of the strut move mack and forth as the suspension goes up and down, this must force the bushings in the insert to really get hammered.

One more: ![]() I like a challenge - like installing a reinf. plate, flat washers and lock nuts to the underside of the 4 mount bolts on the chassis. The only access is at 6 o'clock. S |
